Adoption, Age Groups and Babies

AGE GROUPS

Sims, like humans, age, have needs, develop dreams and goals, exhibit personality, form relationships, hold jobs and eventually die. They progress through six (or seven) unique life stages: baby, toddler, child, teen, young adult (with The Sims 2 University), adult and elder.

Throughout life, a Sim’s role in his or her family changes to suit his or her age. Babies are dependent on older Sims to nurture and take care of them. As a toddler, Sims are taught fundamental skills, such as walking and talking. Children attend school and gain a new, yet still limited, independence. Teen Sims are more self - sufficient and are able to cook for themselves and work in three-tiered careers to earn Simoleons. Adults are completely self - reliant, having virtually no restrictions. Elders are suited to a life of retirement, and often have to sleep and use the toilet more than adults.

BABIES

Pregnancy does not magically happen, they need to try for a baby. There are five different places Sims can try to get pregnant, they are: the elevator, the bed, the hot tub, the car and the clothing booth. Just because they try for a baby does not mean that the woman will become pregnant. There is a 60% chance in the bed, 50% chance in the clothing booth (public WooHoo), 30% chance in the car, 25% chance in the hot tub and a 20% chance in the elevator. To try for a baby on the bed, you have to have a male and female Sim relax on a bed together. The option to “Try for Baby” or “WooHoo” will show up. Choose “Try for Baby” if you wish your Sim to have a baby. If you listen closely after “Trying for Baby” you will hear a lullaby or a tingling sound afterwards. If you are not sure your Sim is pregnant, you can have your Sims relax on the bed again and see if the “Try for Baby” option shows up. If it doesn’t, then your Sim is already pregnant.

ADOPTION

Not all Sims want to become pregnant to have a child. Fortune Sims may be too busy earning money. Family Sims may not find the love of their life. Same - sex couples may also want to raise children. Whatever the reason your Sim doesn’t want to (or can’t) get pregnant, but wants to care for a child, adoption is the way to go. Adoption is only a call away in “The Sims 2.” The adoption agency can be found under Services in the phonebook. The household must have 3000 simoleans to adopt. If you are approved, the Social Worker will bring your new child the next day at 10 AM. To make sure someone is there to recieve the child, it’s best to call the day before a Sim’s day off. At 10 AM the Social Worker will arrive and a screen will pop-up asking you if you wish to adopt a baby, child, or toddler.
